When asked by MEP Gilles Pargneaux (S&D, France) about what the European Commission is doing to ensure that the humanitarian aid granted by the EU to Gaza is used properly and not diverted by Israel, Federica Mogherini, the vice-president of the European Commission, on Tuesday 20 January reiterated the control procedures in place for the use of humanitarian funds granted by the EU. “EU humanitarian aid is implemented solely through reliable partners, including international organisations and international non-governmental organisations. The use of the money is subject to controls at several levels and various stages of the projects, notably by strict selection and quality control mechanisms”, she assured him. (AN)
