Brussels, 14/01/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 14 January, the Irish government launched a consultation on the introduction of a new tax incentive for businesses, the 'knowledge development box'. Similar schemes in favour of intellectual property have been brought in by several countries, the finance minister notes, adding that the setting in place of this system is “important for Ireland's continued success in attracting foreign direct investment”. With the EU and the OECD currently putting the finishing touches to the new rules on the design of such tax incentives, the aim is to guarantee that the beneficiary companies genuinely carry out economic activity. The Dutch have tabled an objection to the scope of the new rules, a matter which will be decided by the OECD. The Irish government has pledged that its 'knowledge development box' will be in line with international standards. The Irish consultations will run until 8 April. (EL)
