Brussels, 03/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - European Migration and Internal Affairs Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos visited Berlin on Tuesday 2 December for talks with German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière.
The two discussed refugees in the EU, a possible mechanism for sharing asylum seekers among the member states and cooperation with the countries of departure and transit. They also spoke about foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq and about their return to the EU, which the German minister would like to see more closely monitored by means of better use of the Schengen Information System (SIS) or by instituting a European PNR system.
These issues are on the agenda of the meeting of home affairs and justice ministers in Brussels on 4 and 5 December (see other article). (SP)
