Parent/subsidiary anti-abuse clause - technical meeting on Friday

Brussels, 30/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - A technical meeting is to be held this Friday 31 October to remove the final misgivings about certain technical points of the anti-abuse clause of the parent/subsidiary directive. The anti-abuse clause is designed to allow the member states to ignore artificial arrangements made for the purposes of tax avoidance and to apply taxation on the basis of actual economic data. Six states (Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Ireland and Malta) had issues of an essentially legal nature related to two aspects of the Presidency's compromise (see EUROPE 11187). The Coreper meeting of 30 October allowed these states to explain their reservations further. Sweden declared that it could support the agreement. The aim therefore remains to put the dossier on the ministers' table at next week's Ecofin meeting, to secure a political agreement in principle. (EL)
