15/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU disappointed by stop to football match. Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton underlined the EU's disappointment at the stopping of a Euro 2016 qualifying football match between Serbia and Albania after an “act of provocation” with a drone carrying an Albanian flag flying over Belgrade's stadium. Players from both teams were jostled after a Serbian caught the Albanian flag and Serbian supporters entered the pitch. “We refute all suggestions made by certain Serbian media that the EU played a role” in the event, said Kocijancic. She recalled that the EU did not believe that politics should be conducted through provocation in stadiums, and she underlined the importance of regional cooperation and of the visit of Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama to Serbia in the coming days - the first visit of an Albanian prime minister there in over 70 years. Kocijancic also stated that the police had shown professionalism in how they managed the event. (CG)
