03/10/2014 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns attacks on civilians in Iraq and Syria. On Friday 3 October, the European Union condemned the spate of attacks in public places across Baghdad (Iraq), which have killed over 40 civilians. It also condemned the attack on children leaving their school in Homs (Syria), which left 45 people dead, including 41 children, and described these attacks as “atrocities”. “The EU condemns terrorist attacks of any kind and in any place, and deplores the loss of innocent civilians' lives that these savage attacks have caused”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. The spokesperson underlined the need to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are held accountable and underlined that “there can be no impunity for any such atrocities”. (CG)
