On Sunday 21 September, the European Union was said to be “greatly concerned” by the bombing incident that took place at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo the same day. “We reiterate the EU's condemnation of terrorism in all its forms”, stated the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in a press release. Ashton's spokesperson described the bombing as a “heinous act”. Two police officers were killed by the explosion in front of one of the entrances to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Several others were also wounded. (CG)
