Brussels, 29/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission would like to know whether EU legislation is sufficient to guarantee consumers the safety of tourist accommodation which they are entitled to expect throughout the EU. To this end, it launched an online publication on Tuesday 29 July to run until 30 November, on the “Green Paper on the Safety of Tourism Accommodation Services”.
Its aim is to gather input from tourists and all relevant parties - national, regional and local authorities, tourism service providers, tour operators, safety industry, fire prevention professionals, consumer associations and standardisation bodies - on certain fundamental aspects of the safety of tourist accommodation.
Participants will be invited to answer a number of questions. Is EU legislation sufficient and properly implemented in the member states? Are modern safety risks properly taken into account in the cross-border provision of tourist accommodation services? Are these risks related to the legislation? What is the impact of the current requirements on SMEs and vulnerable consumers?
This consultation responds to a request made by both the European Parliament and the industry. The Commission is to present an analysis of the contributions it receives in the first half of 2015.
