Brussels, 15/07/2014 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 14 July, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation into the plans of the Lithuanian telecoms regulator, RRT, regarding fixed-line call termination rates, that is, the charges made by telecommunications operators to transfer calls between networks. The Commission regrets that, when laying down these charges, Lithuania did not refer to the method included in the recommendation it published to help the national regulators. It takes the view that if the regulator's plans are applied as they stand, charges in Lithuania will be far higher than the average in the other member states. This bill is ultimately passed on to consumers. The Commission hopes that three months will be enough to allow Lithuania to make changes to its plans to bring it into line with the European rules.
