19/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Agreement on replacement fuel is close. An agreement is imminent between the Council and Parliament on setting up the infrastructure for petrol replacement recharging stations in Europe. A final trialogue takes place on Thursday 20 March and is expected to resolve any, mainly institutional, issues pending in addition to a few targets. Several institutional sources were optimistic that the provisions on convergence will be endorsed. The agreement that is now in sight is expected to enable member states to set out their own binding quotas for recharging stations for electricity, gas and hydrogen, with deadlines staggered between 2020 and 2030. The agreement is also expected to help establish harmonised standards in Europe for these alternative fuels. It will help to provide a political boost to clean mobility and set an example that industry and consumers can follow. (MD)
