27/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - ECB thinking of buying bank loans to ward off deflation. Summing up a debate at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, at the weekend, the head of the ECB, Mario Draghi, talked of the ECB buying bank loans in the form of securities to help stem the very low inflation in the eurozone, which would require the setting up of a market to this end. The IMF has recently warned of the danger of deflation in the eurozone and Draghi said he was expecting low inflation to last for two years because of sensitive price adjustments in peripheral countries, but he felt the risk of deflation was under control.
