On 17 December, the General Affairs Council stressed that it is prepared to continue Iceland's accession negotiation process, if the country decides to resume the talks. Noting the decision of the Icelandic government to suspend these negotiations, the ministers point out that the discussions are at an advanced stage and that “Iceland's accession is a matter of mutual benefit”.
