11/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - EP gives Armenia green light to participate in EU programmes. On 11 December, the European Parliament agreed to Armenia's participation in the programmes of the EU. The MEPs adopted the report by Tomasz Piotr Poreba (ECR, Poland) on the Council's draft decision on the conclusion of a protocol to the partnership and cooperation agreement, for a framework agreement between the EU and Armenia on the general principles for Armenia's participation in EU programmes. In April 2012, Armenia applied to be involved in the programmes of the EU. Participation in each programme requires a protocol agreement to be drawn up and signed by both parties. The conclusion of the protocol will allow certain EU programmes to be gradually opened up to Armenia or the country's increased involvement in these. (CG/transl.fl)
