Brussels, 14/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 14 November, rapporteur, Claude Moraes (S&D, United Kingdom) said that the report on the activities of the NSA and the impact of the espionage programmes on Europeans' personal data would be put to thevote at the end of January in the European Parliament civil liberties committee and at the February plenary. An initial presentation of the report will be given on 5 December in committee.
The MEP refused to comment on the quality of the information provided at this stage by the authorities involved in the scandal, particularly the information provided by the US. He did say, however, that he was very pleased with the hearings carried out by the committee, which have shone a bright light on the problem. He briefly explained that his report would focus on the lessons to be learnt and how Europeans could be protected. On Thursday 14 November, the committee held its 10th hearing on the subject (EUROPE will return to this issue). (SP/transl.fl)
