07/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - Outstanding issues must be resolved. Sudan and South Sudan must step up their efforts to resolve outstanding issues, with the assistance of the international community. That was the wish expressed by members of the European Parliament's development committee chaired by Eva Joly (Greens/EFA, France), in a draft resolution adopted on 5 November (rapporteur: Véronique De Keyser, S&D, Belgium) to be put to the vote in Parliament during the December plenary session. MEPs request that the two neighbouring countries should make the best use of the wealth linked to oil resources in the region and call for mechanisms ensuring transparent management and distribution of oil revenue. They call on the EU to extend the mandate of its special representative in Sudan and South Sudan and to add implementation of existing legislation to the priorities of its aid (€285 million committed).
