Brussels, 04/11/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 4 November, Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton condemned the “violent incidents” in Mitrovica-North during the local elections in Kosovo on 3 November. “This disrupted the elections that otherwise went well in the rest of Kosovo”, she stated, adding that the EU monitored these events “closely”. Kocijancic pointed out that it is the Kosovan police that were primarily responsible for security and that they had asked for Eulex to intervene - which deployed a rapid reaction force. Kfor also intervened. Kocijancic did not want to make further comments on the elections, saying that the EU is waiting for the assessment of the 99-member observation mission - which is due out on 5 November.
