Brussels, 29/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Directorate General for Agriculture of the European Commission has just launched a call for tenders for a study on “the mandatory origin labelling of milk, milk used as an ingredient in dairy products and unprocessed meat other than beef, pig, poultry, sheep and goat meat”.
At the moment, the mandatory rules on origin labelling exist for a series of products, such as beef meat, honey, eggs, imported poultry, fruits and vegetables, bananas, olive oil, wine and hops. Additionally, the 2011 regulation on consumer information on food provides for the country of origin or place of provenance to be included on the label for unprocessed pork, poultry, sheep and goat meat. It also calls on the Commission to submit reports by 13 December 2014 on bringing in labelling of this kind for other meats, milk and milk used as an ingredient in dairy products. The deadline to respond to the call for tenders is 9 September 2013. (LC/transl.fl)
