Brussels, 24/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Algeria intends to develop its renewable energies, an aim encouraged by the memorandum of understanding signed on 7 July in Algiers by Commission President Barroso, and has announced that it will be setting up a solar energy station in Tindouf, with a production capacity of 9 MW. The Algerian Centre for Renewable Energies (CDER) has indicated that work to complete the station is expected to begin very shortly and in its initial phase it is expected to have a production capacity of 2 MW, before it gradually rising to its optimum production level.
The EU, however, does not appear to have been asked for help towards its funding, although it has indicated that it would like to see strategic cooperation in energy. During his visit to Algiers and the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Barroso invited Algeria to “take part in the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation group meeting on gas (GCG), planned for next December in Brussels”. An call has been launched to Algerian companies specialising in renewable energies to participate in the global forum on clean energies in Doha on 9-10 October next. The Algerian Chamber of Commerce And Industry (CACI) is coordinating matters. (FB/transl.fl)
