Brussels, 23/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - During the evening of Monday 22 July, Hezbollah said that the EU's decision to include its military wing on the list of terrorist organisations (see EUROPE 10893) was “aggressive” and “unfair”.
“Hezbollah clearly rejects the EU's decision (…) and considers it an aggressive and unfair decision that is not based on any justification or proof”, the military wing stated in a press release. In its view, “this decision was written by the hand of an American in Israeli ink, and Europe was simply asked to rubber stamp it”. The military wing stresses that the EU buckled under “US-Zionist pressure”. “If the countries of the EU think that, by submitting to US blackmail, they can create an influence in our Muslim-Arab region, we tell them that Washington took this same decision and only reaped loss and disappointment”, added the military wing of the Lebanese Shi-ite movement (our translation throughout). On its side, Israel welcomed the European decision, while Iran criticised it. (CG/transl.fl)
