Brussels, 18/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 17 June, the French region of Brittany and the Spanish region of Galicia spoke out together to defend the deep sea fishing sector, against the proposals of the European Commission (see EUROPE 10829). The Commission plans to gradually ban bottom trawling and to replace it with longline fishing, which is said to be less harmful to the sea bed.
