24/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Postponement of the application of revised Customs Code. The European Parliament has postponed - from 24 June to 1 November 2013 - the date of application of the updated version of the EU Customs Code, so as to give itself enough time with the Council to finish the preparatory technical work for adopting the revised code. The code still has to obtain the approval of the Parliament's internal market committee (IMCO) and the Council's committee of permanent representatives (Coreper) before being put to the vote in Parliament. A provisional agreement on updating the revised code, so as to adapt it to keep pace with information technology, was concluded between the MEPs and Irish Presidency negotiators on 24 April. The entry into force of the code will enable the electronic exchange of information between the authorities and economic operators on all customs transactions, with a few exceptions, by 2020.
