02/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Green light to public co-financing for a multi-purpose arena in Uppsala (Sweden). On 2 May, the European Commission concluded that the proposed public co-financing for a new multi-purpose area in Uppsala (Sweden) was in line with EU state aid rules. In particular, the Commssion noted that the public funding was both proportional to the objective pursued and limited to the minimum necessary to attain that objective. In the view of European Commission Vice-President and Commissioner for Competition Joaquìn Almunia, “citizens' access to sport and cultural facilities is an important policy objective of the EU. The public funding for Uppsala arena furthers this goal without causing undue distortions of competition”. (OL/transl.fl)
