COPA-COGECA urges EU institutions to include the findings of a new EU Commission report, which confirms the benefits of cooperatives for farmers, in the future common agricultural policy (CAP). The report shows that, when cooperatives have a large market share, the price level in a region can increase for farmers and market volatility can be reduced. It also underlines that cooperatives play, for example, a crucial role in the dairy and dairy products and fruit and vegetable sectors. Also, the report indicates that certain adjustments to EU competition law would be beneficial to help rebalance the balance of power in the food chain. (LC/transl.jl)
