Greek privatisation fund chair hands in his resignation

Brussels, 08/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Greek Privatisation Fund got a new president on Monday 11 March 2013 following the resignation on Saturday of the former president, Takis Athanassopoulos. Takis Athanassopoulos resigned after the opening of a court case in connection with the overspending in a public power station construction project in 2007, explains a Greek development ministry press release. At the time, Athanassopoulos was head of the public electricity company board of directors (DEI). The Greek government has now appointed the former head of the Eydap water company, Stelios Stavridis, to take over from Athanassopoulos. The resignation comes as the troika of international lenders to Greece (European Commission, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund) are in Athens to assess implementation of the structural adjustment programme, particularly privatisation - which it said in its previous fact-finding mission in December was not proceeding fast enough.
