07/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - School fruit distribution programme approved. At the Special Committee for Agriculture (SCA) meeting on Monday 4 February, almost all EU countries highlighted the positive results of the school fruit and vegetable distribution schemee, as introduced by the Commission in its report (before the launch of the public consultation). Member states called for the system to be given an extension and its funding to be increased. However, delegations were divided over the question of whether to link up this programme with the one ensuring milk distribution in schools. Some countries (Finland, the Czech Republic, etc.) said that this involved two different programmes with their own specific purposes, whilst other countries, such as Denmark and Austria etc., claimed that a synergy could help to reduce administrative costs related to these programmes.
