Brussels, 29/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 28 January the European Commission announced the names of the 27 winners of the EU's annual young translators competition - Juvenes Translatores - which is organised for secondary school pupils. Over 3,000 pupils from 750 different schools took part in the competition. The winners (one per member state) will receive their prizes at a ceremony that will take place in Brussels on 11 April. The competition, which has been running since 2007, aims to encourage language learning in schools and to give young people a taste of what it is like to be a translator. “Language skills are a fantastic asset. They broaden the mind and can boost employability - something which is especially important in the current economic environment”, said Androulla Vassiliou, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
