09/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - EuroVélo assessed by EP. The European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee took note on Tuesday 7 November of research it had commissioned into cycle lanes in Europe. The EuroVélo network of cycle lanes already includes 45,000 km of cycle lanes on fourteen long-distance routes and a further 25,000 km will soon be added to that. The study stresses the importance of the cycle lanes for tourism and more sustainable transport, but regrets the lack of suitable infrastructure and suggests that EuroVélo should be financed by the trans-European Transport Network. The study says it should be made easier to take bikes on trains. (MD/transl.fl)
