Brussels, 30/08/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 30 August, the European Commission authorised the proposed acquisition of Nordenia, a German manufacturer of flexible packaging, plastic films and film-based products, by Mondi, a group listed on both the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges and principally involved in the manufacture of packaging paper, converted packaging products and uncoated fine paper. The Mondi group also produces newsprint paper in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Russia.
The Commission's investigation revealed that the operation would not pose competition problems within the European Economic Area (EEA), as it would not significantly change the structure of the markets concerned. The investigation showed that the merging parties would have a relatively limited combined market position and that a sufficient number of alternative suppliers remain on the market concerned.
