Brussels, 09/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 6 July, the European Investment Bank (EIB) granted aid of £1.3 million support of the innovative energy-saving initiative Birmingham Energy Savers (BES), launched by Birmingham City Council Birmingham.
The funding will help the council to set up the most recent phase of the BES project, a programme designed to equip 60,000 households with energy saving equipment, such as installing new boilers, improving insulation and fitting solar panels. As well as getting the programme up and running, the money will also help to cover the costs of the feasibility studies and development activities designed to give the programme every chance of succeeding.
This non-reimbursable aid, which takes the form of specific technical assistance granted by the EIB, comes in the framework of the European technical assistance mechanism for local energy projects (ELENA). (OL/transl.fl)
