12/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - Schulz: attempts to rewrite history are unacceptable. During the opening of the European Parliament plenary session on Monday 11 June, the EP president, Martin Schulz, emphasised that he had congratulated the new Serbian president, Tomislav Nikolic, on his election, whilst drawing attention “to the fact that any attempt to rewrite history is neither acceptable nor appropriate”. He also pointed out that the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia described the events in Srebrenica as “genocide… a crime against humanity”. He said: “We must call for Serbia's future in Europe and we hope that it will not leave the road towards international reconciliation, without which it will lose its European prospects.” On 1 June, Nikolic stated that “there was no genocide at Srebrenica” but he did say that “a huge crime had been committed”.
