Schulz would like Juncker to stay at head of Eurogroup

Brussels, 12/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament President Martin Schulz has come out in favour of extending Jean-Claude Juncker's term of office at the helm of the Eurogroup in order to maintain relations between Germany and France, particularly against a background of rising fears over eurozone stability. “Mr Juncker has spoken of a little mouse between two elephants. As everyone knows, elephants are afraid of mice. Jean-Claude Juncker has often played the role of mediator in Europe, a role that suits him well. I hope that he will continue to be active in a role that is central to Europe - as head of the Eurogroup, for example”¸ said the German Social Democrat in an interview with the daily Luxemburger Wort. “I agree unreservedly that Jean-Claude Juncker has been an excellent chairman of the Eurogroup and that, in these troubled times, continuity of personnel is advisable”, he added.
