Human rights consultations

Brussels, 05/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - The human rights, governance and democracy subcommittee, set up as part of neighbourhood policy between Jordan and the European Union, met last week in Amman. One source informed EUROPE that during this 7th session, the EU “reaffirmed its determination to support reforms” begun by Jordan. These commitments are for “promoting democratic institutions” founded on broad and fair representation to guarantee “the freedom of expression, association and meetings, as well as the full participation of civil society, as a driving force in the democratic process”. According to EUROPE'S source, the subcommittee also examined EU-Jordan cooperation at a multilateral level, such as at the United Nations (Council on Human Rights, 3rd AGNU 67 Committee, 2nd Round of the Universal Periodic Review).
