Brussels, 13/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) established by the Kyoto Protocol on climate change has registered its 4,000th project implemented in developing countries and opening the way, in exchange, to emissions credits for industrialised countries. Welcoming this news, Christiana Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, said on Friday 13 April: “The CDM continues to evolve and improve, and deliver on a scale well beyond initial expectations.” There are CDM projects in 74 countries worldwide. The wind farm project in the state of Maharashtra (India) was the 4,000th CDM project. The very first CDM project was registered in 2004. (AN/transl.jl)
