Brussels, 10/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Anna Rosbach (independent), who is deputy chair for the delegation of the European Parliament for relations with the Korean peninsula, called on the EU, on Monday 9 April, to suspend its aid to North Korea. Voicing concern about the launch of a rocket carrying a meteorological satellite to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of the country's founder, Kim Il-Sung, a rocket that could possibly be used for launching nuclear warheads, Rosbach said: “The EU must take action. One way to influence North Korea is by financial means. The USA has already withdrawn its aid to the country and the EU should do the same.” She said she had already suggested that the delegation “immediately” stop all funding and aid to North Korea, including food aid. “For the time being, all help goes to celebrate the 100th anniversary instead of helping the starving population”, she asserted. Rosbach urged the European Commission to “take action immediately,” saying that North Korea “must be told that the rocket launch is not good for the country itself or for its international relations”.
