10/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - Seminar by regions on maritime safety. At a seminar on maritime safety, the maritime regions of Europe will consider what lessons should be learned from the Costa Concordia grounding. The seminar is being held on 12-13 March, on the island of Giglio, where the Costa Concordia ran aground earlier this year. By organising such a seminar, the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) plans to boost European Union action, as post-accident response and the strengthening of preventive measures often come too late after maritime disasters. Safety measures to be taken for passengers on ships will be examined at both international and European levels, as well as regional and local levels. (MD/transl.jl)
