Brussels, 09/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 9 February, the budgetary control committee of the European Parliament gave a favourable opinion (15 votes in favour, 11 against, with three abstentions) on the Council proposal to nominate Baudilio Tomé Muguruza as a member of the Court of Auditors. Baudilio Tomé Muguruza was appointed by the Spanish government, which withdrew the candidacy of Ramon Juan-Francisco Corona, who had initially been nominated (see EUROPE 10516).
The parliamentary committee vote took place following a hearing from the candidate, who had hitherto responded to a preliminary written questionnaire. On Tuesday 14 February, the European Parliament will give its official verdict on this nomination. Muguruza is expected to begin his work at the European Court Auditors on 1 March. It is the Council of Ministers of the EU that decides on the nomination of members of the Court of Auditors, following consultation with the Parliament. (LC/transl.fl)
