07/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Draft ENISA regulation. On Monday 6 February, the European Parliament ITRE (industry, research and energy) committee gave first reading approval, by 52 votes to three, with one abstention, to the European Commission's proposal for a regulation establishing a new mandate for the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA). The Commission proposal would extend (until 2017) and strengthen ENISA's mandate. Commissioner Neelie Kroes welcomed the outcome of the vote, as a major step forward towards adoption of the regulation. “ENISA has a vital role to play in reinforcing member states' abilities and cooperation in this area”, she said.
