Brussels, 05/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Discussions between Palestinians and Israelis will continue, after a first meeting on 3 January, a high-ranking European diplomat close to the matter revealed on Thursday 5 January. “Several meetings are scheduled for the next few days”, he said, stating that the first meeting had been “very good”. It is expected that a meeting will be held this Friday 6 December. The diplomat said that “the Palestinians have put forward proposals on security and borders” and “Israel has agreed to accept these proposals and to study them”. This is a “priority” issue, and Israeli settlement is tied in with borders and security, he added.
The two sides met for direct talks for the first time in 16 months in Amman (Jordan), on Tuesday 3 January, following on from the Quartet statement of 23 September 2011. (CG/transl.rt)
