Brussels, 16/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - European fisheries ministers reached political agreement in Brussels on Thursday 15 December seeking to keep total allowable catches (TACs) in the Black Sea unchanged from year to the next. Fishing opportunities affect only Romania and Bulgaria.
Thus, the turbot quota will be 86.4 tonnes (43.2 tonnes for each country), even though the Commission initially called for a 15% reduction in catches.
For sprat, the 2012 TAC is retained at the 2011 level of 11,475 tonnes (8,032.5 tonnes for Bulgaria and 3,442.5 tonnes for Romania). The Council, Commission and, member states concerned undertook to put in place measures, such as inspection schemes, to address the issues of misreporting and illegal fishing for turbot in the Black Sea. These measures will be put in place in 2012. (LC/transl.rt)
