12/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - Russia must continue modernisation of its economy. Russia has joined the WTO, but it is being urged by the OECD to continue its reforms to promote sustainable growth to help to remedy inequalities in development and income in the country over the longer term. Healthy macroeconomic policies, a more favourable climate for business activity, effective social policies and a reinforcement of energy efficiency are some of the arsenal of measures required, the OECD stresses, after two studies on the country were published on 12 December: one on employment market and policies, the other on the economy as a whole. Russia also needs to continue its reforms to be able to join the club of industrialised nations. (EH/transl.fl)
