Meeting on the fringes of the United Nations Assembly General in New York on 22 September, EU leaders Herman Van Rompuy (European Council) and José Manuel Barroso (European Commission) met with the Japanese prime minister, Yoshihiko Noda, and agreed to speed up the negotiations over a free trade deal.
