On Monday 1st August, the Italian coastguard discovered 25 dead bodies on board a boat containing immigrants when it arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa, according to reports by AFP. The boat also contained 221 people still alive, including 36 women and 21 children. The reason for the deaths of the passengers (who were all young men) was still unknown on Monday.
