26/07/2011 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: Lenovo/Medion. On 26 July the European Commission approved the proposed acquisition of the German electronic equipment supplier Medion (electronic equipment, including desktop and notebook PCs, and peripherals to desktops) by the Chinese computer technology group Lenovo (Chinese manufacturer of desktop and notebook PCs, workstations, servers, storage drives and IT management software, and provider of IT services). The investigation on this transaction, of which the Commission was notified on 20 June, revealed that the parties' combined market shares will remain generally moderate and that a number of credible competitors will remain active for those products, although their activities overlap for desktop and portable PCs, PC monitors and certain computer accessories and peripherals.. According to the Commission, the proposed concentration will not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area. (F.G./transl.rt)
