24/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Decision is postponed on conclusion of framework agreement on Albanian participation in crisis operations. On Monday 23 May, the Council was to adopt without debate a decision approving the conclusion of a framework agreement with Albania on Tirana's participation in EU crisis-management operations. This point, however, was taken off Monday's agenda. According to Albanian diplomatic sources, Tirana still hoped to negotiate certain details of the agreement. Once concluded, the latter will allow Albanian civil and military to take part in any crisis-management operation conducted by the EU without having to negotiate specific agreements. Albanian militants have already taken part in the EU operation in Chad and the Central African Republic (EUFOR Chad/RCA). Albania is also taking part in the EU operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina (EUFOR Althea) where it will be deploying 13 military personnel until the end of the year, and negotiating its participation in the EU naval mission off the coast of Somalia (EU NAVFOR Atalanta).
