14/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - 2011 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture awarded to Berlin's Neues Museum. The European Commission announced on 11 April that the 2011 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Award had been won by the Neues Museum in Berlin, a reconstruction, blending old and new, by UK architect Sir David Chipperfield. The “Emerging Architect Special Mention” award went to Ramon Bosch and Bet Capdeferro for the Collage House in Girona, Spain. The award ceremony will take place on 20 June at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. The Mies van der Rohe Award, which was instituted in 1987, is the most prestigious award in European architecture. It is presented every two years and the winner receives €60,000. The “Emerging Architect Special Mention” carries a prize of €20,000. (I.L./transl.rt)
