06/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - The International Union of Private Wagons contesting European legislation on freight wagon registration. On Wednesday 6 April, the International Union of Private Wagons (UIP) expressed its reservations about European legislation on security and interoperability of conventional rail, which it considers will lead to additional costs for private operators. In a press release published on the same day, the UIP announced that an internal workgroup would be set up to examine the financial impact of current and future European legislation (particularly the directive on Technical Specifications for Interoperability), which imposes new freight wagon registration conditions on its member organisations. It also calls for optimum solutions to be proposed that balance out the costs and benefits for private wagon owners, explains the press release. (A.By./transl.fl)
