29/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - All member states comply with the directive on voluntary blood donation. In a report adopted last week, the European Commission says that all member states comply with the arrangements of the directive which require that they take the necessary measures to encourage voluntary and unpaid blood donations (2002/98/EC) so as to ensure that, as far as possible, blood and blood components are provided through such donation. It does not rule out, however, that further measures may have to be taken, while “keeping in mind that the Commission's mandate is limited to quality and safety of blood and blood components”.
