In 2010, 1.6 billion nights were spent in hotels and similar establishments in the EU, up 2.8% on 2009, after a fall of 0.3% in 2008 and 3.7% in 2009, according to estimates published by Eurostat on Monday 28 February. The EU's statistical office points out that the number of nights spent in hotels by residents in their own country rose by 1.1% in 2010 and hotel nights by non-residents by 5.1%. (O.L./transl.fl)
