11/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Oettinger: Germany and United Kingdom should harmonise their renewables support systems. Berlin and London “are the most important two systems to harmonise, as both have concentrated on offshore wind”, the energy commissioner explained, taking part in a seminar in London on the evening of Thursday 10 February. “Harmonisation of support schemes for renewables is our priority over the next decade”, Günther Oettinger stressed. In a press release assessing progress of the development of renewable energies in the EU, the European Commission calls upon the EU27 to double their annual investment in green energies, from €35 billion to €70 billion a year, to reach the objective of a 20% share for renewables in the total energy provision of the EU by 2020. The European Executive, which is also carrying out an inventory of the national support mechanisms, has also promised to assess their efficiency in 2014. (E.H./transl.fl)
