03/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Immunity for Tamás Deutsch. On Thursday 3 February, the European Parliament took position in favour of keeping in place the parliamentary immunity of Tamás Deutsch (EPP, Hungary). According to the MEPs, the opinions voiced by Deutsch were expressed in the framework of the exercise of his duties as a member of the European Parliament and as such, his immunity should stand. The resolution by Francesco Speroni (EFD, Italy) against lifting his immunity was adopted by a show of hands. In 2010, a Hungarian citizen made accusations against Deutsch. In a television programme broadcast on 25 March 2010, Deutsch allegedly made a number of incorrect declarations, couched in defamatory terms, on the past of that person, who then brought criminal proceedings against him.
